Data v. Digital Narratives—Why the Difference is Important to Your Communications
Digital_narrative

Ethan Zuckerman shared a fantastic post which I have been unable to stop reading and exploring the hyperlinks.  For digital storytellers, here is an important lesson.

We can learn a lot from the numbers that describe a particular population, which is why surveys and censuses persist. But data are terrible at producing the emotional response at the core of empathy. For most people, learning that 23% of the children in some state live in poverty lacks the gut-punch of a story about a child who goes hungry at the end of every month. In fact there is evidence that making someone think analytically about an issue actually makes them less compassionate.”

You can find the entire post, What Should the Digital Public Sphere Do?, and share in some great ideas written by Jonathan Stay.
